FOUNDATION PROJECTS

Overview :Riverside County Parks Foundation offers families outdoor experiences that include interacting with sea creatures without leaving the city of Riverside.  “When we go out and do these programs we meet a lot of families,” said Jeanne McLeod, Treasurer. “We hear them say that they finally have an event they can bring their whole family to and can still afford it. Outdoor recreation can be so expensive and everyone should have access to it. The Parks system makes this possible.”

The most recent opportunity funded by the program was to support the addition of the Aquarium of the Pacific’s Aquarium on Wheels mobile education unit  at the Hidden Valley Wildlife Area.  Hidden Valley Wildlife Area, which is located along the Santa Ana River, east of Norco on Arlington Avenue, is set on 1,500 scenic acres and has access to 25 miles of hiking and equestrian trails.

With the help of the foundation it also integrated an opportunity to learn about and even touch sea creatures. Assisted by a grant from The Community Foundation through the Environmental Education Collaborative Small Grant Program, the Riverside County Parks Foundation added an Aquarium on Wheels  event. Bringing their families with them for the special day of experiencing the ocean, children met sea creatures with guidance from Aquarium of the Pacific staff.
